Beyond the threshold, steam takes the edge off everything. Cedar, incense, warm water. Voices stay low. Names stay lower.The Wayward Current is not a public house. Its baths are kept for those who live beyond the law, and those trusted enough to enter. Inside, weapons remain sheathed, and another’s affairs are left well enough alone.Such is the way of Mayoi.
MAYOI
To outsiders, Mayoi is a bathhouse. That is all most are meant to see.Behind it, people are bought, sold, kept, and passed from one set of hands to another. A debt can become years of service. A bargain can end with someone owning more of you than you meant to give. Some are dragged into it. Some walk in and offer themselves. Mayoi seldom cares about the difference for long.At the center of it all is one man. He decides what someone is worth, what they owe, and whether they are ever free of it. The people around him do not think this makes Mayoi cruel.They think it makes Mayoi honest.
THE WAY IN
People come to Mayoi by choice, by debt, or in someone else’s hands.
BY CHOICE
Criminals who enter Mayoi willingly, accept its authority, and seek a place within the house.
BY DEBT
Those whose failed bargains, unpaid loans, or purchased protection leave their service in Mayoi’s hands.
BY TRADE
Those bought, captured, surrendered, or exchanged as property and brought into Mayoi’s keeping.
NOT EVERYONE ENTERS
Mayoi is not open to every passerby. Anyone who approaches the house should expect to be questioned, watched, and looked into before they are allowed any further.Characters should already be criminals, connected to criminals, or brought in through a story that places them in Mayoi’s hands. A curious stranger does not simply walk through the door.
OOC EXPECTATIONS
Mayoi deals in adult themes, including slavery, coercion, ownership, violence, and sexual content.
All players and characters involved must be adults.
WHAT MAY APPEAR
Characters may be bought, sold, threatened, marked, punished, or forced into service. None of that gives a player permission to push beyond another player’s limits.
WHAT IS REQUIRED
Limits are discussed before a scene. ERP is optional. Consent may be withdrawn at any time. IC rank never becomes OOC authority, and no one will be punished for declining content.
